i personally don't cook often but this book is clear to understand. i like that their are some recipes with some variations like a classic version, light, timesaver, and serves 2 versions.

This recipe collection includes all the classics that you would expect to see in a cookbook. The down side to this is that there are very, very, very few creative, original recipes.
The picture quality is great and it is well written. There is a lot of standard information (when veggies are in season, how to cook a roast), but the creativity just isn't there.
The bottom line:
If you are looking for a standard, run of the mill cookbook to guide you on learning the basics of cooking, this is the one for you.
If you're an avid cook who is looking for something new and exciting or if you've become familiar enough with ingredients to think of at least 2 things to make with them, then you may want to rethink this purchase.

Because of this cookbook's easy, illustrated instructions for the beginner cook, I purchased extras as gifts for the upcoming holiday and future bridal showers. The recipes are homestyle and include ingredients that you most likely have on hand. I loved reading The Cooks Who Care articles. They add such a personal touch to this cookbook. I highly recommend this cookbook for the beginner or seasoned cook.

After 51 years of marriage and raising a family, I have owned all the best cookbooks. I gave this cookbook to both of my daughters and to both of my daughters in law for their birthdays this year, but I never bought one for myself. Today is my 74th birthday, and I treated myself to this cookbook. I don't know why I waited so long --it is absolutely the best of all that I have ever owned!
